PintupiArt 2007
On Wednesday 17 October the Helpmann Academy Friends gathered for an informative evening on Indigenous art at A P Bond Gallery, 95 Unley Road, Unley.
The Helpmann Academy Friends Committee has taken the opportunity to discover the mysteries of Indigenous Art. In 1971 the Papunya Tula Artists from the Western Desert Art Movement established themselves as a leading force in Indigenous Art. The Friends enjoyed an exclusive preview of their exhibition ‘PintupiArt 2007’ and heard from speakers Scott Livesey and Tony Bond about their history and tips for collecting their work.

The Business of Art
On Wednesday 11 October the Friends Committee presented an enjoyable and informative evening on The Business of Art at Peter Walker Fine Art Gallery.
Peter Walker is a nationally respected art dealer and supporter of graduates in visual arts. With a wealth of knowledge on the subject Peter presented an informative discussion on The Business of Art. Leading the audience through the colonial period to contemporary works, including Sidney Nolan, John Olsen, David Larwill and emerging artists Marnie Wark and Michael Jeffery, Peter explained why knowledge in art has become a ‘must have’ this decade.
Peter also discussed the success of local artists and how they ‘made it’. With details on collecting, buying and selling art the audience is now eager to start an art collection earlier rather than later.
Comments from the night:
“I learnt more tonight than in the past 20 years of collecting art”
“What a relief it was to know that I’m doing the right thing by collecting pieces I love to live with rather than pure money making”
