Under the Banyan Tree exhibition presents work created or inspired during seven artists’ residency at Sanskriti Kendra, Delhi.

A huge Banyan tree sits at the entrance of Sanskriti Kendra artist retreat, welcoming its many visitors, artists in residence, students and conference attendees. From October to November 2007, seven artists from the Helpmann Academy’s visual art partner schools were welcomed to Sanskriti Kendra for a six-week residency.

Exhibiting artists supported by the Helpmann Academy are Fran Callen, Gus Clutterbuck, Peter Fraser, Samantha Jeffries, Marie Littlewood, Meghan O’Rourke and Laura Wills.

The 3rd Annual Academy Awards ‘Carnivale' Friday 8th August

The Foundation Front’s annual performance event is a showcase of student & graduate talent from Adelaide Centre for the Arts, Elder Conservatorium of Music, and Flinders Drama & Screen Centres.

Existing, new, untried, experimental or collaborative performances are required for innovative 5-7 minute feature acts in Dance, Music, Multimedia, Cross-Discipline, Comedy, Stand-Up etc…

Performers will be in the running for the $1,000 Adelaide City Council ‘Best Performance Award’

15 September - ARTWORK WANTED - Donations of art work from students, for an Art Auction, with all proceeds going to the Women’s & Children’s Foundation. Your kind donations will be appreciated and help raise money to buy non-evasive equipment and therapy for seriously ill children. The Art Auction will be held from 2pm on Sunday 21 September at The Highbury Hotel, 1017 Lower North East Rd, Highbury. Dance

DANCE CLASSES - Leigh Warren & Dancers offers contemporary dance classes for Intermediate Level on Tuesdays, and Beginner Level on Wednesdays from 6-7.15pm. 22 July to 2 August - THRESHOLD FOR SARA. An insightful and sometimes humorous exploration of what many consider a taboo subject, self-harm. The original play shows the events leading up to a turning point in the life of a young woman, Sara, exploring her past demons, relationships, fantasies and an unlikely situation that develops out of her mundane job at a 24-hour store. Presented by actors and co-creators Kurt Murray, Nina Pierce and Paul Herbert Threshold for Sara is the premiere work by new theatre ensemble Bad Company. Original music for the performance was created by Matthew Vecchio, with multimedia by Flinders University Screen Production students Patrick Lang and Jane Baird. 7.30pm Tue-Sat 22 - 26 July, 8pm Tue-Sat 29 July - 2 Aug, Matinee 2pm Sat 26 July and 2 Aug. 25 July to 9 August - BORROWED TIME presented by Professional Collective, written and directed by Stephen House. 9 August – SKETCHES OF SPAIN Elder Evening Concert. Be part of the first ever full performance in Australia of this classic collaboration by Miles Davis and Gil Evans. 25 July - THE SYNERGY PROJECT: The Incubator final presentations. The Synergy Project is a series of hands on workshops, encouraging collaboration across media arts. The aim of the workshops is for participants to be put out of their comfort zones and try new means of creative expression. Co-ordinated by Lynne Sanderson and funded by Helpmann Academy.

3 August - Deadline for entries in TRUTH OR DARE international short film contest! For making a 1 to 3 minute film, 15-20 people will win $500 to $3000 USD, plus the final winner of this Feature Film contest wins production funding for a feature film with film makers from Hollywood. 30 July to 14 August - UNDER THE BANYAN TREE featuring the works of seven artists from the Helpmann Academy Partner Schools who undertook a six-week artist residency at Sanskriti Kendra in India in 2007. 30 July to 20 August - ARMED AND EMPTY HANDED new drawings by emerging artist Kim Buck, exploring the inescapable transience of life and the tensions that exist between holding on and letting go. Coinciding with the SALA Festival, the exhibition will be opened by renowned local artist Anna Platten from 7pm on Wednesday 30 July. Chesser Gallery, 23 Chesser St Adelaide. 31 July to 14 August - CHAPTER TEN Bruce Wilson Gallery at O’Halloran Hill celebrates its ten-year anniversary as a student-run gallery. Graduating Vizarts students at TAFE SA’s O’Halloran Hill Campus have embraced the SALA Festival as an opportunity to celebrate a special anniversary for the Bruce Wilson Gallery. Chapter Ten exhibition celebrates the tenth anniversary of the space as a student-run gallery - the longest running and only student-run art space currently in an art school in South Australia. 1 to 17 August - STILL Contemporary Paper Installation by Amalia Alpareanu. Amalia is an Adelaide based artist currently studying Art History and Theory at the South Australian School of Art, UniSA. With a love of paper, both new and old, Amalia also works as a paper conservator at the State Library of South Australia. The artworks in the exhibition are made from recycled Japanese tissue paper (a material also used in conservation) and handmade paper made from recycled cotton and plant fibres. 2, 3, 9 & 10 August - AUTHENTIC an exhibition of new work by Joanna Poulson & Heidi Profanter. 1-5pm (or by appointment) at Poulson & Profanter Studio, 15 Charles St, Prospect.
